Redmond Proficiency Academy

Redmond Proficiency Academy (RPA) commissioned BBT to design an efficient, modern, and dynamic learning environment that fit their educational model – one that did not look or feel like a traditional school. The charter school builds its curriculum around the needs of individual students and uses a proficiency-based learning system where students master concepts at their own pace using customized processes.

The new facility creates a modern “incubator” space that allows for maximum flexibility for RPA’s programs. Other spaces included general classrooms, learning labs, and music and choir rooms. This design-build project was completed over an 11-month span.

ADAPTING
AND EVOLVING

RPA’s mantra is that no teacher “owns” a room. Instead, the adaptable floor plan allows rooms to serve multiple purposes throughout the day with students and staff rotating through spaces as educational needs shift and evolve.

FLEXIBLE
SPACES

The facility includes science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) labs, a multi-purpose room with a climbing wall, and a band and choir room. These spaces were designed to be flexible – carts are used in place of storage areas to promote nimble use of the modular spaces.
