Looking to update and improve upon its existing design, the Hermiston School District hired BBT to design a new elementary prototype to be constructed at two separate sites. The new Rocky Heights Elementary School resides on the site of the previous building. Targeted improvements to the previous prototype included a centralized administrative area, optimized circulation, and increased natural lighting in classrooms and common areas. Design committee meetings begun in early 2020 successfully moved to a virtual format due to COVID-19 restrictions and continued into the early stages of construction.
