William E. Miller ElementaryWilliam Miller Elementary was the Bend La Pine School District's first LEED-certified educational facility. At the time of the school's opening in 2009, it was the only LEED Gold certified educational facility in Oregon east of the Cascade Mountains. The school is designed for 600 students in four “neighborhoods” with each neighborhood consisting of six classrooms. All classrooms have an abundance of natural ventilation and light. The site was designed to incorporate large areas of natural and restored vegetation that requires little, if any irrigation and doubles as an extension of the classroom. |
