Kingston Elementary

The complexity of the school's design was to retain as much outdoor play area and green space as possible, while minimizing on-site parking and asphalt areas. BBT, the school district, local neighborhood association and the City of Bend worked together to replace much of the on-site parking spaces with street parking. This resulted in retention of the school's outdoor areas that were a top priority for residents of the surrounding neighborhood.
Kingston Elementary's first phase addition and remodel to the existing facility, included a new 8,247 square foot gymnasium/multipurpose room with a raised platform, music room and accessory spaces. The final two phases included a remodel to the existing facility with a new 5,330 SF entrance administration, and kitchen space to fill the area between the old school and new multipurpose room.  The new circular entry faces the redesigned parking area to create welcoming access to the school.

Phase 2 also consisted of removing the existing classroom and administration area at the building’s original entry and replacing it with a two-story, 10 classroom addition.  The existing multipurpose room was extended and remodeled into a new library.
